Well on his way to filling a fourth passport with the stamps and visas of more than 150 countries, Dave G. Houser has toted his Canon cameras to the proverbial four corners of the earth – and most places in between – including all 50 states.

Blessed with a keen eye for color, light and line and guided by a career journalist’s insatiable curiosity about new people and places, Dave has accrued an astonishing list of more than 20,000 photo credits.  He is distinguished as a writer as well, compiling nearly 1,200 article bylines, while co-authoring three travel guidebooks.

An aerospace industry engineering writer in a previous life -- with aspirations of becoming a race car driver -- Dave wised up and instead enrolled in journalism studies at the University of Florida graduating cum laude in 1968. Following graduate studies at Oklahoma State University he served stints as a newspaper reporter/photographer, sports publicist, speechwriter and corporate magazine editor. 

Within the first year as a freelance travel journalist, Dave gained membership in the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) and by 1984 he was claiming some of the industry's top honors including the Tourism Industry Association of Canada "Explore Canada" award for travel photography and SATW's "Photographer of the Year" honors. In 1985, Dave was runner up for the prestigious Lowell Thomas Grand Award in a competition designed to select the nation's best all-around travel journalist. His subsequent awards are too numerous to list, but most recently he received a Bronze Award in the 2009 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year competition. He also netted five writing and photography awards in the North American Travel Journalists Association's annual journalism competition for 2007 and then added three more in 2008 and 2009.

Following the 2005 sale of Houserstock, a small but highly successful travel stock photography agency operated for 15 years by Dave and his now ex-wife Jan Butchofsky, Dave has returned to full-time freelancing. He's busy producing the self-illustrated articles he has long been noted for -- specializing in auto and RV travel, cruising, off-beat and adventure travel, environmental issues, cultural and historical topics, and senior lifestyles.
